ABOUT US

More Than a Foundation, We Are a Movement

Kitong Bisa Foundation began in 2006 through a simple initiative: providing free lessons in a family home on Yapen Island, Papua. What started as a small spark has grown into a national and international movement for youth empowerment across Papua and Indonesia.

Our name, Kitong Bisa ("We Can"), is more than a phrase. It is a call to action and a reminder that every young person has the power to lead, innovate, and transform their community.

We do more than run programs—we build a movement. Together with educators, entrepreneurs, environmental stewards, advocates, and strategic partners, we turn aspirations into action through KBF’s Four Impact Pillars.

OUR STORY

Our Story: It Started with Care on Yapen Island

In 2006, Isaschar Mambrasar began offering free lessons from his home on Yapen Island. The initiative grew from a deep concern about educational inequality in Papua. Neighbours began sending their children, and the initiative gradually spread across the island.

That grassroots movement eventually grew into Yayasan Kitong Bisa Indonesia, founded on the belief that Papuan youth, when given opportunity and strong character education, can become pioneers of change in their own communities.
