The cost of education isn’t the only challenge students face. They also need mentoring, learning experiences outside the classroom, and networks to help prepare them for their post-graduation journey.
Through a collaboration between the Kitong Bisa Foundation and Eramet Indonesia, the Eramet Beyond Scholarship Program supports talents from Eastern Indonesia. By 2024, the program will award 42 scholarships. STEM fields are a key focus, in line with the need for more science, technology, engineering, and mathematics talent.
Beneficiary data demonstrates that the program’s support is tailored to students’ needs. In addition to financial assistance, participants receive capacity-building activities and networking opportunities. This combination helps scholarship recipients not only persist in their education but also prepare for their career paths and contributions.
Impactful scholarship programs need to view students as individuals with potential that needs to be developed. Financial assistance reduces barriers, while mentoring and networking open access to new knowledge, experience, and opportunities.
Collaboration between social organizations and the private sector demonstrates that achieving educational equity requires collaborative efforts. When support is designed sustainably, more young people in Eastern Indonesia can complete their education and bring knowledge back to their communities.
